6 Ways to Save Money While Hosting a Party

We know, summer is the best time for a great party. Many people get their party hosting confidence back when summer hits. The heat, great summer food options, and outdoor opportunity makes hosting a dinner party, barbecue, etc. super fun and exciting. Though hosting any event means spending money, here are some ways to be named the best party host while saving money simultaneously.

1. Starters- While you may want to show off your kitchen skills through the main dish, never underestimate the power of starters. Filling your guests up on starters like bread rolls, salad, and even beverages is a great way of making sure you will not have to cook more than necessary with the main dishes which ultimately cost the most. Allow your guests to fill up on starters before you even bring out the main course.

2. Entertainment- It may be a dinner party or cookout, but you don’t want your guests to eat for a full 3-5 hours. Have some entertainment that will keep your guests enthused and make them avoid eating out of boredom. Karaoke is a great way to keep guests entertained. This will save you lots of money and you may even have leftovers.

3. DIY- Decorations can take up more of your budget than you expect. Try some DIY decorations to save money. For example, you can create your own outdoor confetti and banners for decoration for a barbecue, or you can use your arts and craft skills for indoor table decorations/ party favors.

4. Dinnerware- For plates and cups, the best thing to do is to make sure you buy smaller plastic cups and plates so that your guests are forced to eat the proper serving amounts as opposed to letting greed take over.

5. Less Meat, More Starch- Though it may not seem like the most nutritional advice, try less meat options and more sides. Though veggies are important, they do not seem to fill guests up as much as carbs. Potatoes, rice, pasta, etc. are all great sides that will taste great and fill guests up while taking it easy on your pockets.

6. Be the server- Many party hosts go wrong by allowing their guests to make their own plates. The best thing for hosts to do is serve the food to assure proper portions are being distributed. Have your children or close relatives help serve if necessary.

When's your next big party?
